Following the successful first run of Social Media Hangout, PR enthusiast Florence Hungbo, also known as Bodex held the second edition of the event on Sunday, June 6 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja and it was an auspicious gathering of players in the social and conventional media space.
The event themed Digital Media: Freedom of Internet Use And The Right Of Citizens, according to guests was an apt topic for the season considering the current social media turmoil Nigeria is going through.
Speaking on the timing of the event, which coincides with the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, Bodex explained that it was simply a coincidence orchestrated by God. When God tells you to do something and you listen, that is the result.
She revealed that she was particularly excited for the Social Media Hangout 2021, as it is a reminder “to us all how important the use of the Internet is and the quality of news we push out.”
“Bodex Media is committed to the global objective of using social media in shaping our society with constant awareness and with gatherings like this, on the good use of social media in nation-building. We want all media personalities, media houses, social media influencers, digital marketers, content creators, PR Consultants, TV/Radio hosts, fans and other stakeholders to achieve their full potential in changing the negative narrative of the use of social media in our society and to make Nigeria a better nation.
“Our objective, therefore, is to create and nourish a platform that will re-orientate operators in the online journalism space and build a network of thoughtful leaders who will be objective in news selection and propagation in a friendly environment,” she added.
Among those present at the event were the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; National Head, Silverbird Television, Mr. Charles Kalu; City People Founder, Dr. Seye Kehinde; Debo Macaroni; Senator Adetola Akinola of Glitz Group of Companies; Radio Goddess, Ify Onyegbule; Nollywood stakeholder and media expert, Samuel ‘Big Sam’ Olatunji, alongside many others from related fields.
