CAN Tasks Nigerian Govt On Welfare Package For Police

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger state chapter has made a case for urgent improvement on the welfare package for security agencies, the police in particular to serve as an encouragement as they risk their lives protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

Security challenges bedevilling parts of the country today, CAN leadership in Niger state insist could be as a result of lack of motivation due to poor remunerations hence they (security agencies) exhibit signs of lukewarm attitude towards the discharge of their duties.

Niger State CAN Chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, made the appeal during his familiarization visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday B. Kuryas at the Command headquarters, Dutsen Kura, western by-pass Minna over the weekend.

Bulus Yohanna, who is the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, nevertheless commended the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the entire security forces for trying their best to bring under control crime and other form of criminalities even with the meagre remunerations.

The Clergy man appealed to Nigerians to continue to support the country’s security agencies with prayers. “I commend the entire security apparatus for your untiring efforts in tackling the insecurity and I encourage patriotic Nigerians to remember you in their daily prayers”.

Well remunerated police or security agencies, according to him is one sure ways of checking corruption and bringing the trend to the barest minimal, hence “I call on the government to improve the welfare of all security agencies and to equip them well so that they can be well motivated to carry out their duties”.

The CAN chairman therefore called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies so that we (citizens) can all overcome the insecurity challenges that has made the lives of citizens a living hell.

Responding, Niger State Police Commissioner, Mr. Monday Kuryas solicited for prayers and support of Nigerians, Christians in particular to intercede for the nation, Niger state citizenry in particular for divine intervention to end security incursions by armed bandits.

The Commissioner who however encouraged citizens to support the police with useful information on how to track criminals said, “Let us all be vigilant, watch and pray for the security and unity of our country, Nigeria”.
