- Obtains Oba Of Benin’s Blessings
Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential candidate and his running mate Yusuf Datti on Friday campaigned in the three senatorial districts of Edo State with a promise that his government will leverage the country’s population and vast lands to boost the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and make life better for Nigerians.
Obi and his running mate, who addressed a mammoth crowd late in the evening at Baptist Convention Ground along TV Road, Benin City, promised to rebuild the country if elected.
He also promised to usher in a good government that would end the suffering of Nigerians, just as he also promised to end nepotism in the country and ensure that women and youths would never go hungry.
Earlier at the palace of the Oba of Benin to obtain the Royal blessing, Oba Ewuare I1 told the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that his reputation proceeded him.
Obi received a barrage of questions from the monarch who needed some clarifications from him.
The Benin Monarch said, he read that land was given to him and he turned the offer down and that he should confirm if that information was true.
Oba Ewuare II further hinted to the LP presidential candidate that there are a lot of temptations in office and asked if he could resist them and remain clean.
The monarch further said that there have been a lot of arguments about his popularity.
He said some said he is only popular on social media while some said otherwise, adding that he has tried to find out from both the old and the young and that what he has seen is quite amazing.
The monarch maintained that the Benin throne, right from time immemorial, has remained apolitical as he is the father to all, blesses and advises all who seek political position and others.
He said the throne is interested in the one who has the interest of Nigerians at heart, one who can make life meaningful for all.
Responding to the monarch’s questions, the Presidential candidate of the LP, Obi, said it was true that he actually returned the land given to him.
On the question of resisting temptations that are associated with office, he said he and his running mate would do all in their power to resist and fight corruption in the country.
Earlier, Obi who said he was in his palace with his team to seek his blessings as he embarks on his campaign, reiterated that the forthcoming election should not be based on religion and ethnic sentiments but on competence and one who can deliver to Nigerians the dividends of democracy.
Obi who was given a royal blessing by the Oba of Benin promised to do his best if given the opportunity to rule the country come 2023.
According to him, the country cannot remain like this, we have to do the needful to check the drift, the economy, security, hunger among others needs immediate attention for the country to remain afloat or else there will be serious problems.
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure Esq. while thanking the Edo people for the large turnout and their patience to wait all day for the LP campaign train said the Obi administration as the president of Nigeria from May 2023 will reward them by offering them good governance that would alleviate the suffering every Nigerian is currently facing.
The LP presidential candidate and his running mate, Yusuf Datti had earlier in the day campaigned in Auchi and Uromi in Edo North and Central Senatorial districts respectively.
