Barely few days after the police celebrated the arrest of four armed bandits planning to launch attack on Maje village near Nasko Magama and other communities, the dare devil criminals have this morning set ablaze, Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi, the Catholic Priest of Saint Peter and Paul Church, Kaffin-Koro in Paikoro Local Government Area, Niger State.
The armed bandits who were said to have made several previous attempts to attack the community were said to have gained access into the community at about 1 am, shooting sporadically into the air as they made their way to the church un-challenged.
Eyewitness account told our correspondent that the invaders had difficulty gaining access into the Catholic Priests’ residence as they struggled for over an hour to without success.
After failed attempts to break through the wall to gain access into the Clergy mans’ home, the source said the invaders finally decided to set the entire facility ablaze to actualize their desperation to cut short the life of Fr. Isaac Achi.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state command, DSP Wasiu A Abiodun confirmed the attack, “Armed bandits in the early hours of today invaded the residence of one, Rev. Father Isaac Achi of St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church, along Daza road, Kafin-Koro in Paikoro Local Government Area”.
The PPRO in a statement said, “The bandits reportedly attempted to gain entrance into the residence, but seems difficult and they decided to set the house ablaze while the said Rev. Father was burnt dead”.
Police Tactical team attached to Kaffin-Koro Division were immediately drafted to the area, Abiodun said, adding however that, unfortunately the hoodlums had completed their evil acts and escaped before their arrival.
While the lifeless body of the late Rev. Father Isaac was recovered from the debris, the PPRO said a friend to the deceased, Father Collins who was shot on the shoulder by the armed bandits is responding to treatment at an undisclosed health facility.
The PPRO who however did not confirm the abduction of the late Rev, Father’s cook also said that a reinforcement team has been despatched to the affected area as part of efforts to apprehend the assailants while investigations into the unfortunate attack has commenced.
