INEC Officials Stop Journalists From Coverage At PU 048 Ijaiye

At Polling Unit 048 Ijaiye, Ojokoro, Lagos, some overzealous INEC officials stopped journalists from covering the exercise, even as voting commenced at the PU.

An officials who failed to give his name approached our correspondent and insisted that they were instructed not to allow media coverage, especially those with camera.

Efforts to make him understand that the media are partners for the free and fair election fell on deaf ear as he confined that AIT and others had been turned back from taking videos or photographs of the exercise.

Meanwhile, a voter who identified herself as Bukola told our correspondent that a couple of media organisations had earlier came to the PU but were not allowed to carry out their duties.

Also an official of INEC who volunteered to speak to our correspondent said the media can ask questions but are not allowed to video or take photographs of the exercise, insisting that it was an order from above.

“It is an order from the top. You can see that I am answering you but you cannot take videos or photo.

“We were asked to stop such,” he said even as he also failed to say exactly why could lead to such instruction.
