NKFI Rector Pledges to Deploy Apps To Combat Insecurity, Crime

As the country continues to struggle with insecurity and high unemployment, the Rector of Nigeria Korean Friendship Institute, Charles Oluwatoyin, stated that the institute can train graduates who will create jobs and be self-sufficient rather than looking for wblue-collarue collar jobs that are scarce.
He also promises to create apps to help security agencies combat the insecurity that has plagued the country.
The rector made the remarks recently in his office in Lokoja, the state capital.
He stated that the institute’s cutting-edge cyber-security facilities, when deployed, could assist security operatives in gathering intelligence, and that the institute is developing an application to help security agencies address several challenges.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, technology has become an indispensable tool for combating various security threats. “Incorporating technology into security systems improves surveillance, intelligence gathering, and response capabilities,” Williams Charles stated.

He stated that the current administration’s commitment to building on the predecessor’s gains in terms of life and property security would be supported by modern technology.

“Surveillance cameras, biometric identification systems, and data analytics have all shown to be effective in preventing and combating criminal activity. The Governor’s goal in investing in technology is to create a safer and more secure environment for citizens,” he stated.

He went on to say that technology could improve communication and collaboration among security agencies, resulting in more efficient and coordinated efforts to address security threats and that real-time information sharing, predictive analytics, and automated response systems enable quick and effective decision-making, thereby mitigating potential security risks.

On the topic of unemployment, he stated that vocational education plays an important role in shaping the future of individuals and the nation as a whole, emphasising that this type of learning provides individuals with practical skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to the workforce.

He hinted that Governor Ododo recognises the importance of bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications and that such an approach would not only provide individuals with the necessary skills but would also pave the way for economic growth and development.

The Rector stated that Governor Ododo’s priority for vocational and technical education is to provide individuals with the necessary skills for the job market, thereby lowering unemployment and fostering economic growth.

The Rector attested that Governor Ododo’s emphasis on skill acquisition through vocational education and the use of technology to solve insecurity reflects his commitment to the state’s holistic development, claiming that by investing in these two critical areas, the governor intends to create a society that is not only economically prosperous but also safe and secure.

ECOWAS Parliamentarians Visit BUK As Management Eulogises Senator Barau

The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) welcomed members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament to the institution’s new campus on Thursday.

The parliamentarians’ visit to the university was one of the activities planned for the Second Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature of the Parliament, which is being held in Kano.

Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the university’s Vice Chancellor, and other institution officials welcomed the parliamentarians at the Abubakar Rasheed Senate Building.

During the visit, Professor Abbas thanked the parliamentarians, saying, “This is the first time that we will be receiving the entire ECOWAS Parliament.”

Senator Barau was described as a politician par excellence, and he listed the lawmaker’s numerous interventions at the university, adding that he has made significant contributions to the institution’s development.

“He has made enormous contributions to the development of BUK. He is an excellent politician. To my knowledge, he has had a positive impact on the lives of those he represents. Aside from paying for students’ school fees, he has brought projects to the school,” he stated.

He listed several projects, including a four-story building, over 20 kilometres of road, streetlights, and a laboratory.

He urged parliamentarians to facilitate subregional university collaboration in addressing the member states’ developmental challenges.

“We need political intervention to collaborate with other universities in the subregion on research for member state development,” he said.

Senator Barau Jibrin, the First Deputy Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament and Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, explained that the ECOWAS Parliament’s second extraordinary session was held in Kano to bring the assembly closer to the people.

“The parliament of West Africa is now in Kano and at BUK because the institution is important not only to Kano but to the entire country,” he stated.

He described education as the bedrock of society, claiming that any society without a strong educational system is doomed.

Senator Barau, while commending the university’s management for the institution’s transformation, stated that the ECOWAS Parliament will assist the university in addressing some of its challenges.

Billay Tunkara, the Fourth Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, praised Senator Barau and thanked the university for bestowing an honorary doctorate on the Senate’s Deputy President recently.

ECOWAS Parliamentarians Visit Kano Schools, Barau Donates Buses, Uniforms To 856 Students

Members of the Sixth Legislature of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament paid sensitization visits to two schools in Kano State on Wednesday as part of activities planned for the regional legislative arm’s Second Extraordinary Session, which is taking place in the North West Nigeria town.

Senator Barau Jibrin, a prominent son of Kano State, led the delegation to Aliyu Saidu Bebeji Government Arabic Secondary School and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria.

The second extraordinary session of the parliament in the ancient town is being attended by parliamentarians from 12 countries, including Nigeria, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote D’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and the Republic of Togo.

The parliamentarians were greeted by jubilant crowds who were delighted that the town was hosting the historic meeting and that their son had touched their lives through impactful projects.

Senator Barau explained the importance of ECOWAS in subregional integration at the secondary school, stating that they are there to bring Parliament closer to the people and to allow students to benefit from their wealth of experience.

He stated: “We are here today to inform the members of the ECOWAS Parliament about our educational system and to meet our students, as well as for you, the students, to learn more about the ECOWAS Parliament.

“This school is similar to my school. I am a member of this community. In 1999, I was the first member of the House of Representatives from this federal constituency (Tarauni).

“As a result, I am donating uniforms to all of the school’s students, one set per student. I will send tailors to take your measurements for the new uniform. I will also provide a new Sharon vehicle for the school and N1 million to the teachers.”

Similarly, another member of Parliament, Paschal Agbodike, who represents Anambra State’s Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, donated N1 million to the school.

Earlier, Umar Doguwa, the state commissioner of education, thanked the parliamentarians for their visit, calling it the first in history.

Represented by the Ministry’s Director of Schools, Alhaji Abbas Abdullahi, the commissioner praised Senator Barau for bringing the ECOWAS delegation to Kano, stating that it would benefit the entire state.

The school’s principal, Yusuf Atiku, stated: “I am not surprised by what Senator Barau did to us because of his generosity. That is why he is known as Maliya.

“We appreciate your kind gesture and support for us. We will never forget what you did to us. We appreciate you and the entire ECOWAS Parliament.”

TEDA School Celebrates 19 Students Who Excelled In 2024 JAMB Examination, Had Best Result In 2020 WASCE

Nineteen students from TEDA School in rural Eke-Owerri, Obingwa Local Government, Abia State, scored between 250 and 345 points on the 2024 JAMB examination. Their results confirmed the school’s top-tier profile in the Nigerian school community.

TEDA has a consistent track record of academic success. In 2023, TEDA represented Nigeria at the 55th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Switzerland.  Grandville Chukure, who scored 345 in the 2024 JAMB, represented TEDA and Nigeria in that contest.

Furthermore, TEDA students were the only Abia State representatives in the finals of the International Olympiad Competition in Senior Chemistry and Maths.

Furthermore, TEDA students finished first, second, and fourth place in the 2022/2023 secondary school Junior Science competition. This comes after TEDA was named the Best School in Junior Science in 2020/2021, finishing first, second, fourth, fifth, eighth, and ninth in the competition. That year, their student won the award for Best Boy in Junior Chemistry.

The Abia State Ministry of Education named TEDA the Best Government-Approved Private Junior Secondary School and the Second-Best Government-Approved Senior Secondary School for the academic year 2021/22.

In response, TEDA founder Dr. Godson Dinneya congratulated the students and their tutors in their outstanding JAMB results. He stated that the school would continue to invest in creating an enabling environment in order to achieve consistently outstanding results.

The school has recently invested in a 1000-seat auditorium with platforms for artistic productions, laboratories for all science and technical subjects, and workshops for mechanical, electrical/electronics, and woodwork.
