Abia Media Forum (AMF) has felicitated with Comrade Chris Ikechukwu Isiguzo, the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on his reelection.
In a statement signed by Chief Ben Okezie, Coordinator, the forum expressed confidence that the Isiguzo-led executive will take the media profession to the level where professionalism and towering ethical standards will be deeply rooted in the practice of journalism amongst its practitioners in Nigeria.
“To say that Comrade Isiguzo’s victory signposts the resolve and audacity of the men and women in the pen profession in Nigeria to move the profession to the next level of information/communication technology (ICT) advancement in Nigeria is to state the obvious.
“At a time of grave insecurity in the country where Nigerian journalists have become highly endangered in the practice of the noble profession, Comrade Isiguzo’s erudition and tact in steering the Fourth Estate of the Realm out of any perceived hazard is what is needed in his second time.
“The Isiguzo’s executive should also key into the yearnings of the journalists across the country which include: enhanced welfare package, regular payment of salaries, insurance, media stabilisation funds, good governance, etc and come out with a credible and acceptable resolution on them.
“The AMF also congratulates other newly elected national officers of the union and believes that their election/reelection will lead to a new era of renaissance in journalism.
“We observe with joy that the 7th triennial Conference held in Umuahia, Abia State capital, was largely peaceful, smooth, and credible and indeed reflected the credible standard we, the men in the pen profession, usually set for the Nigerian nation.
“Once again, we say big congratulations to Comrade Chris Ikechukwu Isiguzo and other officers of the NUJ recently elected in Umuahia,” the statement emphasised.
