Business experts who constitute Board of Directors of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Business School (UBS) on Saturday expressed excitement at the University’s proposal to upgrade the school and erect a new building that will cost N3.1 billion.
The new board of the UBS was inaugurated on Saturday by the Pro Chancellor, and chairman of the 9th Governing Council of the University Professor Sulyman Kuranga at which the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone outlined the dream of a new UBS.
Apart from the Business School offering new programmes, Esimone said the University proposes a new building that will cost N3.1billion.
Apart from that, he also said the accreditation of the school by University Business Schools in Africa stands at $10,000.00 and the group has hinted the fee will increase significantly by next year and appealed for assistance from the board of directors.
He said that investment in the UBS will yield returns in the shortest possible time and that is why the University is appealing to board members to engage the university as consultants in their organisation and introduce the business school as a way of marketing it to high net-worth clients and friends.
The new building he said will replace the present aging one and will consist of an auditorium, a guest house and high profile lecture rooms of world standard, among others.
While inaugurating the new board, the Pro Chancellor Prof. Sulyman Kuranga expressed joy that the university “keeps towering like the great Zik of Africa after whom it is named and that perhaps accounts for the giant strides we have successfully recorded with the UBS since inception in just about a decade”.
He said the Vice Chancellor has been briefing him and there is evidence that members of the board have been carefully chosen considering their invaluable contributions to the corporate world.
He hoped to see the same dynamism brought to bear on UBS which he described as a fertile ground where buseinesses are transformed and leaders inspired and equipped with Business praxis.
Members of the new board are: Dr. Okey Anueyiagu, Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu of Chisco group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka of Coscharis group and Dr. Clement Nwogbo. Others are: Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr. Poly Emenike of Neros Pharmaceutical Ltd, Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii and Dr.ABC Orjiakor of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Ltd.
They all participated in the inauguration virtually exudibg confidence and excitement for “a call to service”.
While Utomi suggested some modifications to the building, Dr. Emenike suggested for early meeting so that some of the challenges will be tackled early.
The director of the Business school Prof. Emma Okoye said he was glad that all the members accepted the offer of membership and predicted a great future for the school.
While thanking the Vice Chancellor for assembling “these great men together, the creame de la creame of Business mem in the South East, Okoye pledged not to disappoint the members.
“The way I see it, it is going to be great and we will add a great value to businesses”, he concluded#
